Walking around one of CDMX’s many city parks

While waiting for Rikki’s NYC nursing license to get approval, and hanging out with family in Wisconsin, we decided to jet down and explore Mexico City for a week. We again took a few days to drive from Stratford to Chicago, stopping again to see friends in Madison and Milwaukee, and flew direct from Chicago to CDMX. Our AirBnB was in a beautiful high rise apartment on La Reforma, a scenic boulevard traversing all of Mexico City.

The food scene in CDMX is one of the best in the world, with Mexico producing the freshest and highest quality fruits and vegetables. While in CMDX, we dined at Pujol and Quintonil, both of which are consistently ranked in the top 50 restaurants worldwide. When we weren’t walking to top notch restaurants in Roma, the hip and trendy CDMX neighborhood, we were enjoying the Mexican street food and taco shops.

CDMX is home to plenty of museums and parks, which made for busy weekends exploring, eating, and drinking our way through the city. One Saturday, we visited the neighborhood of Coyoacan. This old neighborhood is home to a rich history dating back to Cortez’s conquering of the city, as well as being the birthplace and home of Frida Kahlo. We visited Frida’s home, which is now a museum dedicated to her and husband Diego Rivera’s work.

On Sundays, La Reforma, the tree canopied boulevard stretching across the city, is closed to cars and only open to pedestrians and bikers. We rented bikes and joined the thousands of Mexico City locals getting their weekly exercise in.

At the end of La Reforma, we were rewarded with sweeping views of the city from atop the foothills

Again, the food was the highlight of the trip. While we did treat ourselves to many incredible dining experiences in beautifully decorated venues, maybe the best bites were on our last day, en route to the airport. We had 45 minutes to spare before our flight, so we asked our taxi driver if he was hungry and wanted to stop for tacos. There are a few very well known taco joints in the neighborhood next to the airport, so we told the taco driver to pick his favorite. The three of us pulled up, sat down, and enjoyed a lunch together, sampling the taco stand’s specialties, the cabeza and lengua tacos.

The day after flying back to Wisconsin, Rikki got an email with her license approval letter for New York. We booked an AirBnB, flights, and planned the NYC move for the following weekend!
